Jiyū-waza – The Free Form of Aikido
Jiyū-waza means "free technology" and is one of the most dynamic parts of aikido. There are no predetermined attacks or techniques – instead, the practitioner trains to react spontaneously, floating with the movement and using his body feeling and timing.
The purpose is not to "win" without developing presence, balance and contact with the partner. Jiyū-waza therefore becomes a way of deepening one’s understanding of the principles of the Aikidon – to face force without crashing, to adapt without giving up, and to move freely in the middle of the movement.
